Raspberry Jam was a bit of an oddity for bat ponies. She was a little more saturated than most of them, often attributed to non-bat pony heritage. As she grew up her markings became more pronounced, and were often a subject of ridicule for her. Her only real solice was making jam with her grandmother, a kindly bat pony who adored her grandchild more than life itself.
Unfortunately, her grandmother would pass away while she was still young. After this, RJ spent a lot of time alone, depressed after the departure of the only pony who had ever really understood her. She grew into a young teen and remained a blankflank, and though this would normally increase her bullying, most of the other young bat ponies simply left her alone. No one really knew what to do with her.
One day, after finding some of the jam making equipment her grandmother would use, RJ decided to give it another go. Upon making a jam of her namesake, she realized how much she enjoyed it, and finally gained her cutiemark. She was sad her grandmother wasn't there to see it, but knew how proud she would be of her.
RJ's reclusive personality did a 180. She began to share her jams with her classmates, teachers, and their families. Eventually she was encouraged to start a small jam stand, and the rest is history. RJ is now beloved in her hometown, not just because of her ability to make delicious jams and compote, but because she finally manged to come out of her shell.
Raspberry is pure-hearted and kind, fun-loving, and honest. She values the wellbeing of others and cares deeply for her community, who were often discriminated against by non-bat ponyfolk. Her love language is gifts, and her gift is always a hardy, sweet jam! Newcomers to town sometimes recieve these gifts, too, to show hospitality to strangers. She'd give a jam to a rock if she thought it would be able to enjoy it!
RJ is gracious, but has a hard time sitting still. She spends a lot of time hopping from place to place, and as her jam business has grown, it's given her more opporitunity to do so! She wants to sell jams in Canterlot, but knows she has a long way to go before then. In the meantime, she's happy to provide the locals with something tasty for their buscuits and pastries.
